Abstract

The purposes of this paper were to classify and describe thetypes of high risk population through the test of apolipoprotein Eamong rural populations. The gene for human apolipoprotein E hasbeen found on the long arm of chromosome 19 and exists in threecommon allelic forms, E2, E3, and E4. The E4 allele is representedin Alzheimer's disease (AD) and is known as genetic risk factorfor AD. Data were collected from 200 voluntary participants whoaged from 35 up to 80 years. The risk group consists of 32 people(16% of the sample) who have APOE-E4 gene and have over 70%possibility of developing the AD. The higher risk group among the32 people can be classified into four types: the group with thefamily history of dementia (n = 2), the group with vascular disease(n = 7), the group with diabetes mellitus (n = 5), and the groupwho are older than 60 years old (n = 6).
